Ghio Ong - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  An hour-long fire that broke out at a riverside community razed around 40 houses along Capulong street in Tondo, Manila yesterday.

At least 80 families were left homeless by the fire, which initial investigation showed started at the house of a certain “Nerissa” at the Victor Lopez Compound at past 10 a.m.

Fire investigators are looking into the possibility that an illegal electricity connection or “jumper” caused the blaze.

The fire, which affected the residents of Barangays 93 and 151, caused around P100,000 in property damage, said Chief Insp. Melvin Carbonell, deputy chief for operations of the Manila fire department.

While no one was reported hurt or killed, a man suffered from shortness of breath as he tried to save some belongings when the fire started.
