CEBU, Philippines - A man was stabbed to death by a woman’s live-in partner on Saturday evening after he was caught having sex with her inside the house she shared with the suspect in Barangay Patag, Naga City.

The victim was identified as Nonoy Cañete, of legal age, and temporarily residing in Barangay Tinaan, Naga City.

Police Officer 3 Gilmer Noval, the case investigator, told The FREEMAN that the 31-year-old suspect works as a driver for a private company in Barangay Balud, San Fernando. The suspect and his live-in partner have two children, a four-year-old and a one-year-old.

The FREEMAN is withholding the names of the suspect and his live-in partner due to the nature of the case.

According to police report, the suspect had just arrived home at 11 p.m. and when he opened the door, he saw his live-in partner and the victim both naked and having sex.

The suspect confronted the victim which led to a fistfight. The suspect’s live-in partner broke up the fight.

“Giuwang ni sila sa live-in partner sa suspect mao to nakadagan ang suspect gawas sa balay,” he said, adding that the suspect tried to chase the victim but he was pulled back inside the house by his live-in partner.

Minutes later, the victim sneaked back inside the house to put on his underwear but he was seen by the suspect.

The suspect then stabbed the victim several times using a knife, hitting his stomach and neck.

The victim was brought to Minglanilla District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Initial investigation reveals that the victim and the suspect’s live-in partner had also been in a relationship.

“Mura'g dugay-dugay na siguro,” Noval said, adding that the suspect himself only comes home on weekends.

Noval together with his colleagues responded to the incident after they received a call from a concerned citizen leading to the arrest of the suspect. —/JBB (FREEMAN)
