Detainee dies in MPD jail

MANILA, Philippines - A detainee died of a heart attack in his detention cell at the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 8 in Sta. Mesa early yesterday morning.

Romeo Valdez, 52, of Tambunting street in Sta. Cruz, complained of chest pain at around 5 a.m., Senior Police Officer 2 John Charles Duran of the MPD homicide unit said.

Duran said Valdez was declared dead on arrival at the San Lazaro Hospital.

Valdez was detained at the MPD detention cell on drug charges.
