10-day World Slasher Cup on at Big Dome
MANILA, Philippines – Ten straight days of world-class cockfighting begin at the air-conditioned Smart Araneta Coliseum today as the 2017 World Slasher Cup Invitational 9-Cock Derby sizzles at 10 a.m. with more than 100 fights.
Supported by Excellence Poultry and Livestock Specialists,Thunderbird, B-Meg, Petron and with Manny Berbano’s Pit Games Media Inc as media partner, this year’s WSC is hosted anew by Pintakasi of Champions.
Close to 400 local and foreign cockers and breeders tackle their assigned 2-cock elims on Jan. 23, 24 and 25.
Hostilities continue on Jan. 26, 27 and 28 with the 3-cock semifinals. Participants with 3, 3.5 and 4 points will have their final rounds (4-cock) on Jan. 29, 30 and 31.
The grand finals (4-cock) on Feb. 1 is reserved for those with 4.5 and 5 points.
Known as the “Olympics of Cockfighting,” this is the most-awaited battle of champion gamefowl breeds, and to be named the WSC champion brings prestige to both the breeder and the winning bloodline.
The Philippine contingent, led by defending champion Magno Lim of Isabela, will be challenged by entries from United States, Mexico, Australia, Cambodia, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Guam, Saipan and Vietnam.
