Trillanes to colleagues: Doubt testimonies of both Kerwin, Ronnie

Ronnie Dayan, former driver and lover of Sen. Leila de Lima, and alleged drug lord Kerwin Espinosa have been making inconsistent statements in relation to the senator's supposed involvement in the illegal drug trade. PNP-PIO, File

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV on Monday warned his colleagues that both alleged drug lord Kerwin Espinosa and Ronnie Dayan, former driver of Sen. Leila de Lima, might both be lying.

The senator made the statement after Sen. Manny Pacquiao moved to cite Dayan in contempt for making contradictory statements.

"Ina-assume kasi na nagsisinungaling si Ronnie Dayan dahil ina-assume na nagsasabi ng totoo si Kerwin Espinosa pero is there a possibility na parehas silang nagsisinungaling?" Trillanes said during the resumption of the Senate inquiry into the death of Mayor Rolando Espinosa of Albuera, Leyte.

Dayan has been claiming that the meeting between De Lima and Espinosa in Baguio City occurred in 2014 while the alleged drug lord said that it happened in 2015.

De Lima's former driver, however, admitted that he might be wrong in his previous statements.

On the other hand, Trillanes stressed that the inconsistencies between Dayan and Espinosa's statements have already been proven.

"Doon sa testimony ni Mr. Dayan sa House of Representatives, doon sila sa parking lot ng hotel... Si Kerwin ang sinasabi niya doon sila sa parking lot sa Burnham Park," Trillanes said.

Trillanes added that both Dayan and Espinosa might only have been pressured to make such statements linking De Lima to the illegal drug trade.

"Assuming talagang nangyari nung campaign, November 2016 pumunta ng Burnham Park si Sen. De Lima, sa Burnham Park nag-picture taking but what does that tell us? Nothing," Trillanes said.
