PNP relieves 24 cops in Espinosa killing

MANILA, Philippines - Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Ronaldo "Bato" Dela Rosa ordered Thursday the relief of 24 cops involved in the killing of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa inside his detention cell.

Dela Rosa directed Police Director Fernandez Mendez Jr. of the Directorate for Personnel and Record Management to immediately relieve the cops who served search warrant for firearms against Espinosa on Saturday.

The 24 cops who were from the Crime Investigation and Detention Group (CIDG) and the Regional Maritime Unit (RMU) are now reassigned at Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit where they will face investigation by the Internal Affairs Service.
