Wanted warden: Assistant CPDRC warden on leave, Capitol looking for replacement

CEBU, Philippines – Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III is now looking for a warden to manage the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) after the assistant jail warden took a vacation leave.

Davide said he will be entertaining today an applicant for the position since they are now urgently looking for someone to manage the provincial jail.

He confirmed that Bobby Legaspi, the Capitol Security Chief, recently tendered his resignation before his office due to personal reasons, which the governor refused to disclose.

However, Davide said, he didn't accept Legaspi's resignation and instead advised him to just take a leave.

"I need him. He's been doing well, and in fact, he's been very helpful nako sa CPDRC," Davide said.

The governor earlier tasked Legaspi to oversee the provincial jail facility while the Capitol is still looking for a replacement for a warden. This after former consultant Marco Toral and former warden Romeo Manansala resigned from their position after series of controversies inside the CPDRC.

Legaspi took over as the governor's assistant jail warden on September this year, and was the one who oversaw the new policies and guidelines implemented inside the CPDRC.

Now that Legaspi is on leave, the governor said they have to look for a replacement.

Meanwhile, Davide said that the new policies imposed at the CPDRC will still remain, such as the policy on visiting privileges and the temporary suspension of accepting inmates because of jail congestion.

As of now, there are 2,883 inmates inside the jail facility.

The Cebu provincial government is proposing a P10 million allocation for the construction of additional prison cells and infirmary to help decongest the provincial jail. —/NSA (FREEMAN)
