Muntinlupa blaze leaves 300 families homeless
MANILA, Philippines - More than 300 families were left homeless after a fire broke out at a residential compound in Barangay Cupang, Muntinlupa City yesterday morning.
Fire Officer 1 Michael Gregorio said the fire started at the house of Federico Castillo in Bunyi Compound just before 5 a.m.
Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
Gregorio said around 150 shanties were destroyed and the fire damage was pegged at around P3 million.
The fire reached Task Force Alpha, which means that firemen from nearby districts responded to put out the fire.
Gregorio said crews from 10 fire trucks of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), 28 fire trucks from volunteer groups and three tankers responded to put out the fire at around 7:30 a.m.
The BFP brought one ambulance while there were two ambulances each from the Philippine Red Cross and the city government.
Gregorio said arson investigators are conducting an investigation to verify reports that one of the residents was killed while several others were injured.
