Patricia Lourdes Viray - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area located 990 kilometers east of Surigao City is expected to intensify into a tropical cyclone within 24 to 72 hours, state weather bureau PAGASA said on Tuesday.

The weather disturbance is expected to bring cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over eastern Visayas and Caraga.

Flash floods and landslides are possible to occur in the areas.

PAGASA alerted public and disaster risk reduction and management councils to take necessary precautionary measures.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon or "habagat" will continue to bring light to moderate rains to Luzon.

The regions of CALABARZON, Cordillera, Ilocos, Central Luzon, Zamboanga Peninsula, SOCCKSARGEN and Davao will experience cloudy skies with thunderstorms.

On the other hand, cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will prevail over Occidental Mindoro, Palawan and Metro Manila.

Other areas will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, the weather bureau said.
