PNP releases composite sketch of Davao City bomber

MANILA, Philippines — Five days after the deadly blast, the Philippine National Police (PNP) released on Wednesday a composite sketch of the suspect believed to be behind the Davao City bombing that claimed at least 14 lives.

Police Director Benjamin Magalong, acting PNP deputy chief for operations, and Chief Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan described the suspect as a slim man, standing 5’7" in height and around 30 years old.

Authorities said the image of the suspect was identified by the witnesses.

They are also looking for closed circuit television camera footage that might have caught the suspect.

According to the reconstructed pre-blast condition, the improvised explosive device (IED) was contained in a 60mm and 81mm mortar casing concealed in a textile and placed inside a bag.

The IED had an initiator of a modified of non-electric blasting cap that was powered by a nine-volt battery. It was triggered using a mobile phone.

The PNP said the IED used on Sept. 2 at the Davao City night market is same as the other attacks in Mindanao.

Meanwhile, the PNP is also considering the angle of “narco-politics” in the incident where politicians involved in drug trade funded the extremists to bomb the hometown of President Rodrigo Duterte.
