4 PNP men kidnapped in Surigao del Norte

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – Four Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel in Malimono, Surigao del Norte were kidnapped yesterday by a group of armed men believed to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA).

The Malimono Municipal Police Office reported that SPO3 Santiago Lamanilao, PO3 Jerome Bagayas, PO2 Khalid Senaca and n?o?n??-??u?n?i?f?o?r?m personnel (NUP) Rodrigo Angub were taken by armed men at past 2 p.m.  while on their way to a fiesta in Barangay Kagtinae.

SPO4 Noli Magalona, day desk officer in Malimono, said the victims were on duty but they went to Barangay Kagtinae on invitation of a friend.

Magalona said they were not in official PNP uniform when they went to the barangay but they were carrying their service firearms.  

Police Regional Office-13 acting regional information officer Police Senior Inspector Charity Galvez in a mobile phone interview confirmed the kidnapping. She was on her way to PRO-13 for an emergency meeting with top officials of the Caraga police. 

She said the meeting was called by Chief Supt. Rolando Felix, regional director.
