LPA may enter Phl in 24 hours

MANILA, Philippines - The state weather bureau is keeping a close eye on a low-pressure area over the Pacific Ocean, which may enter the country within the next 24 hours.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) yesterday said the low-pressure area was last spotted 1,785 kilometers east of Luzon.

PAGASA senior weather forecaster Rene Paciente said the weather system was forecast to enter the Philippine area of responsibility last night or this morning.

Paciente, however, said it has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone based on latest forecast.

“As of now, we don’t expect it to make landfall or even bring rains in the country,” Paciente said.

But PAGASA was not ruling out the possibility of the low-pressure area changing its track and moving closer to country, he said.

PAGASA said fair weather will prevail in most parts of the country during the weekend, apart from isolated thunderstorms.
