Holiday tomorrow for Ramadan end

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - President Duterte’s first declaration of a national holiday is for the end of Ramadan.

Duterte issued Proclamation No. 6 declaring a non-working holiday nationwide tomorrow in observance of Eid’l Fitr, the end of the Islamic holy month.

“The entire Filipino nation should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr,” the proclamation read.

Eid’l Fitr, which is celebrated for three days after the end of the month of fasting, is already declared a regular holiday under Republic Act 9177.

Those working tomorrow will be paid 200 percent of regular salary for the first eight hours and an additional 30 percent if they work beyond that.

Others who opt not to report for work will have 100 percent of their salaries for that day.

If July 6 falls on a worker’s rest day, the employee will also receive 30 percent on top of the 200 percent pay on that day and another 30 percent for work rendered beyond the eight-hour period.

Meanwhile, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea released five proclamations declaring special non-working holidays in Moncada town in Tarlac, Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte, San Carlos and Cadiz cities in Negros Occidental, and Pasig City in Metro Manila.

Proclamation No. 1 declared July 1 as a special non-working day in Moncada in Tarlac in celebration of  its 141st foundation day. Proclamation No. 2 declared July 1 as a special non-working day in Dipolog City, which celebrated its 103rd foundation day.

Proclamation No. 3 declared July 1 as a special non-working day in San Carlos City in Negros Occidental for its Charter day celebrations.

Medialdea also released Proclamation No. 4 declaring July 2 a special non-working day in Pasig City, which marked its 443rd founding anniversary. – Giovanni Nilles, Edu Punay
