Pagasa monitoring 2 LPAs off Mindanao

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - State weather forecasters are monitoring two low-pressure areas off the coast of Mindanao, which could bring rains to some parts of the country in the next few days.

The two low-pressure areas are embedded along the intertropical convergence zone and will bring light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Southern Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

As of 11 a.m. yesterday, PAGASA said one of the weather systems was located over the east Philippine Sea, and is estimated to be at 850 kilometers east of Surigao City in Surigao del Norte.

The other was spotted 160 kilometers southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

Weather forecasters earlier said the first weather disturbance might develop into a tropical depression and would likely enter the Philippine area of responsibility.

PAGASA said cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms would be experienced over the Visayas, Mindanao and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan).

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon over the weekend.

“Moderate to strong winds blowing from southwest to south will prevail over Palawan and Western Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough,” added the weather bureau.
