Security for Rody tightened as drug rings put up bounty

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Security has been tightened for president-elect Rodrigo Duterte following reports that drug syndicates have put up as much as P50 million to kill him.

The bounty on Duterte and Chief Supt. Ronald dela Rosa was reportedly put up by syndicates adversely affected by the president-elect’s anti-illegal drug pronouncements.

The Presidential Security Group has taken the lead in providing security for the incoming president.

At least 200 local policemen have also been trained to secure Duterte, who is now temporarily holding office at the Malacañang of the South at the regional office of the Department of Public Works and Highways here in Barangay Panacan here.

Security has also been tightened in the subdivision where Duterte resides.

Dela Rosa, Duterte’s choice as the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), on Thursday revealed that some groups have offered rewards for killing him and Duterte.

From the initial offer of P10 million, the bounty for himself and Duterte is now at P50 million, he said.

The incoming PNP chief, however, did not mention who may be behind the supposed contract killing.
