Duterte curses at UN, tells it to shut up

MANILA, Philippines — President-elect Rodrigo Duterte lashed out against the United Nations at a press conference on Thursday evening in Davao City, cursing at the organization and saying that it should shut up.

His reaction was sparked by a question from GMA-7 reporter Mariz Umali who asked him for a comment on a recent statement by international media organizations who want to file a suit against him.

"Bullshit to them... Ayan ang mahirap dito puro tinatakot ka na demanda 'this is a convention of this, the convention of that,'" Duterte said.

Reporters Without Borders on Wednesday called on the Philippine media to boycott Duterte’s news conferences until he issues an apology for saying that many journalists were killed in the country because they were corrupt.

He then told off the United Nations not to force its code of conduct on him as it is not its mandate.

"The UN? P******** kang UN, hindi mo ma-solve solve yung patayan dyan sa Middle East, they're killing people like... you cannot even lift a finger in Africa, they're butchering the black people there. Tumahimik nga kayo, pareho rin pala kayo ng Pilipinas," he said.

"I never signed anything that says I have to behave in this manner or in that manner," he added.

It was not the first time that the incoming president criticized the UN. On the campaign trail in March, Duterte called the UN a group of "hypocrites" for "bamboozling us to obey" environmental commitments while not imposing sanctions on developed countries that abuse natural resources.

Duterte has also chided the Commission on Human Rights and the US and Australia envoys earlier after criticisms on his rape joke. He told the former to "shut up" after it released its investigation saying he violated the Magna Carta of Women and threatened to cut ties with the US and Australia.

He has also cursed Pope Francis for the traffic during the papal visit but soon apologized after he drew flak.
