Holiday pay for workers tomorrow – DOLE

Evelyn Macairan, Sheila Crisostomo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Employees who will work on Labor Day tomorrow are entitled to additional pay, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said yesterday.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz reminded employers that if an employee reports for work during a regular holiday, the worker shall be paid 200 percent of the regular pay for that day for the first eight hours.

For work in excess of eight hours, the worker shall receive an additional 30 percent of the person’s hourly rate.

Baldoz said if the day falls on an employee’s rest day and still goes to work, the worker shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his daily rate of 200 percent. For work in excess of eight hours, the employee gets an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate.

If the employee does not work during a regular holiday, the worker is still entitled to 100 percent of his salary for that day.

DOLE: Over 167,000 jobs offered

DOLE also announced that 167,924 jobs are up for grabs in 54 job fair venues across the country on Labor Day.

Baldoz said the job fairs would be held simultaneously in 17 regions and would gather 1,112 employers.

Of the 167,924 jobs offered, 75,137 or 44.74 percent are for local, 92,257 or 54.94 percent are for overseas, and 530 or .32 percent are for government.

“As Labor Day approaches, the number of both participating employers and job vacancies are expected to increase, so job seekers of all types nationwide need to prepare to join the 54 job fairs,” Baldoz said.

The job fairs are expected to enable job seekers to speed up their search for work and employers to fast-track their search for skilled and qualified personnel.
