Duterte twits Roxas for criticizing his 3-6 month vow to end criminality

MANILA, Philippines – Presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte on Wednesday hit back at political rival Manuel “Mar” Roxas II for saying his three to six months deadline to wipe out crime is a false vow.

Duterte insisted that eradicating criminality in a short period of time is possible if one commits to it. He said he already did the same before and he can do it again in the country if elected.

“E kung patayin ko yan lahat sa isang araw, anong pakialam mo? Ginawa ko na yan noon e ‘di gagawin ko uli,” Duterte said.

On Wednesday, Roxas described Duterte’s promise to end criminality within three to six months as mere flattery adding that it is impossible. Duterte replied by criticizing Roxas saying he cannot do it because he is “soft” and not willing to kill people.

“Takot kang pumatay? Takot kang mamatay? Subukan mo ako. Maghawak ka ng shabu sa harap ko, pasasabugin ko yang ulo mo (Are you afraid to kill? Are you afraid to die? Try me. Try holding shabu),” Duterte said.

The Mayor also responded to Roxas’s assertion that Davao City has the fourth highest crime rate in the country by reiterating that he knows nothing and has his facts wrong. He said the crime records are high in Davao City since it include minor violations like smoking in public as well as crimes that are easily reported through the 911 Emergency Response Center which can be contacted even by mobile phone.

“Wala kang alam. You don’t know about the local government, about the laws,” Duterte, who earlier condemned Roxas’s performance as an Interior and Local Government secretary, said.

Duterte said if elected as president he will prioritize ordering the police and military to hunt down crime lords. He admitted that it will become a bloody administration if he becomes a president.

“Pag durugista ka, kidnapper ka, talagang papatayin kita (expletive deleted). Akala nila nagbibiro ako. Bakit ako magbibiro?” the mayor said in a speech.

“Pagka kriminal ka, magrape ka ng bata, I will hunt you like a dog and i will kill you. Bakit kita bubuhayin,” he added.

During the second presidential debate in Cebu City, Roxas and Duterte also had a heated argument regarding criminality.
