PIA website hacked, releases false news on Binay, Mar

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A hacker gained access to the website of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and published false reports against presidential candidates Manuel Roxas II and Vice President Jejomar Binay.

The false reports were accessible early yesterday morning on the main page of the agency’s website, in a section containing the titles of latest news articles published on the government portal.

The story on Roxas claimed the administration bet was resigned to losing the presidency, while another said Binay has admitted owning a hacienda in Batangas.

The hacienda was among the “proof” presented during the corruption investigation against the Vice President at the Senate Blue Ribbon sub-committee last year.

Binay denied ownership of the property.

Another false article claimed that Janet Lim-Napoles, the alleged pork barrel scam mastermind, was found dead at Manila Hotel.

The false articles were removed from the PIA website by mid-morning.
