Pinoy technology startup to compete in Washington in June

MANILA, Philippines - A Filipino financial technology startup, which has set up a web-based application offering health and insurance coverage, is one of five Asian startups chosen to join an international competition in Washington in June.

Horsepower.ph will compete in the 1776 Challenge Cup.

The company specializes in providing benefits like managed healthcare, mobile health and life insurance and travel and consumer protection.

The 1776 Challenge Cup is an international competition that identifies promising startups tackling global-scale challenges. It is run by 1776, a business incubator in Washington.  

The incubator’s expertise is how to grow a startup in an industry where there is heavy regulation.

Horsepower.ph is among the five regional winners in the competition held in Tokyo, Japan. The Filipino company competed against startups from high-tech laden cities like Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai and Bangkok.  

Some of the competitor startups are into cancer detection, malaria cure, smart books, smartwatches, millennial jobs platform, interactive storybooks, metal nano ink, robots and next generation genetic sequencing.
