Metro chills at 19.4ºC

Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The temperature in Metro Manila dipped yesterday to 19.4 degrees Celsius, the coldest recorded so far since the northeast monsoon started last October.

The lowest temperature was recorded at the Science Garden in Agham Road, Quezon City at 6:20 a.m., according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

It surpassed the previous record of 19.6 degrees Celsius registered by PAGASA on Dec. 29, 2015.

In Baguio City, the temperature was recorded at 11.5 degrees Celsius yesterday, slightly higher than the lowest temperature recorded on Jan. 26 at 10.8 degrees Celsius.

PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said the surge of the northeast monsoon and the tail-end of a cold front would continue to affect Luzon until today, bringing colder temperatures and rough to very rough sea condition.

The tail-end of a cold front will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains over the Bicol region, Eastern Visayas and Quezon province today, Aurelio said.

Cagayan Valley and Aurora province will have cloudy skies with light rains due to the northeast monsoon. Metro Manila, Ilocos region, Cordillera and the rest of Central Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of the country.

Aurelio said a gale warning was raised over the seaboard of Luzon and eastern seaboard of the Visayas due to the surge of the northeast monsoon.

“Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” he said.

No tropical cyclone is expected to develop within and outside the Philippine area of responsibility in the next three days, the weather bureau said.
