Palace condoles with Señeres's family

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Monday extended its condolences to the family of late Overseas Filipino Workers' Club party-list Rep. Roy Señeres, who passed away three days after he withdrew from the presidential race.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretay Herminio Coloma Jr. recalled the accomplishments and contributions of Señeres when he served as the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) of the Department of Labor and Employment from year 2000 to 2005 and United Arab Emirates ambassador from 1994 to 1998.

“Nakikiramay kami sa kanyang pamilya. Siya ay nagtaguyod sa kapakanan ng mga manggagawa bilang tagapangulo ng NLRC at nang itinalaga siya sa Gitnang Silangan bilang ambassador,” Coloma said in a statement.

The solon who backed out of the presidential race last Friday due to health reasons, served in several labor sector-related agencies. He acted as the labor attaché in Washington from 1990 to 1993, executive labor arbiter in NLRC, and hearing officer at the Bureau of Labor Relation of DOLE from 1972 to 1974, among others.

The 68-year-old Señeres died of cardiac arrest triggered by complications of diabetes at around 8 a.m. on Monday morning.
