Carpio wants extended sessions on Poe's DQ case

Patricia Lourdes Viray - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines - Supreme Court (SC) Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio on Tuesday asked the en banc to extend the duration of the oral arguments on the disqualification case against Sen. Grace Poe.

Carpio proposed to extend the sessions for Poe's case until 10 p.m. which is held every Tuesday afternoon.

The en banc adjourned at past 5 p.m. in the last two days of oral arguments on the senator's case.

The SC magistrates discussed ways on how to expedite the resolution on Poe's case as there are only three months left before the May 9 elections.

Poe was still included in the initial list of candidates that the Commission of Elections (Comelec) released last month. The poll body is scheduled to begin the printing of ballots by February 8.

Meanwhile, one of the petitioners for Poe's disqualification before the Comelec asked the high court to hold daily oral arguments on the case.

Lawyer Estrella Elamparo cited time constraints in her motion for continuous hearings.
