Iglesia Ni Cristo breaks 3 world records in welcoming 2016
MANILA, Philippines - Religious sect Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) has broken three Guinness World Records upon welcoming 2016 on Thursday and Friday.
Some 10,000 members of the religious group gathered at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan for their attempt to break world records.
According to a report from the STAR, INC broke Norway's world record of having the largest fireworks display with around 700,000 pieces lit up at the sky for almost an hour.
The religious group also set a new world record for the largest number of sparklers lit in relay and the most sparklers lit simultaneously.
"We were able to announce the certificates for the three titles that were attempted tonight by the Iglesia ni Cristo: the longest line of sparklers lit in relay, the most sparklers lit simultaneously, and the largest fireworks display," Guinness World Records official adjudicator Christina Conlon said.
The INC earlier broke two world records during the worldwide premiere of "Felix Manalo" at the Philippine Area. The religious group set the new world record for largest audience for a film screening and largest audience at a film premiere. - Patricia Lourdes Viray
