Northeast monsoon to bring cooler temperatures

Ghio Ong, Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Slightly cooler temperatures with light rains are likely to persist in most parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, this week due to the northeast monsoon, the state weather bureau said yesterday.

Aldczar Aurelio, weather forecaster of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said generally fair weather condition is expected in most parts of the country in the next three to five days.

Temperatures will range from 23 to 32 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila, and between 14 and 24 degrees Celsius in the country’s summer capital, Baguio City, he said.

The northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with light rains over Cagayan Valley and the province of Aurora, while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains are expected over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, Aurelio said.

He said the eastern section of Luzon, including Bicol region, and eastern Visayas will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the tail-end of a cold front.

Aurelio said no weather disturbance is expected to affect the country in the next three days.

The weather bureau said this year’s northeast monsoon season would not be as cold as in the previous years due to the prevailing El Niño phenomenon.
