PNoy: We may surpass first world nations if 'Daang Matuwid' continues

MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III maintained on Tuesday that the reforms of his administration should be continued after he steps down from office.

Speaking at the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Scholars' Day in Pasay City, Aquino claimed that the country may even surpass advanced countries if his "Daang Matuwid" plaftorm will be sustained.

"Ayon nga po sa mga dalubhasa, kung hindi madidiskaril ang Daang Matuwid, sa loob ng isang henerasyon, first world na raw po tayo," Aquino said.

"Kung magpapatuloy ang mabuting pamamahalang bukal ng paglago ng ekonomiya, di magtatagal, mapapantayan natin, kundi man malalampasan, ang mauunlad na bansa," he added.

Aquino reminded Filipinos that the 2016 elections will be a referendum for "Daang Matuwid."

He urged the people to support leaders who will make permanent the reforms that he started.

"Ang tanong nga po: Lahat ba ng ating pinaghirapan, lahat ba ng ating napagtagumpayan, maglalaho lang dahil sa isang eleksiyon?" Aquino said.

"Ituloy natin ang pamumunong nagawa na at gagawin pa ang nararapat sa Pilipino; ituloy natin ang pagtahak sa Daang Matuwid," he added.

Aquino made the remarks a day after endorsing the tandem of Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer Manuel Roxas II and Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo.

In his speech at the LP event on Monday, Aquino said the country will attain more progress under a Roxas-Robredo leadership.

"Meron tayong Mar, may Leni pa na siguradong magpapatuloy ng Daang Matuwid, kumpiyansa ako na lalo pa nilang pabibilisin ang ating paghakbang," the president said.
