Cop who confronted Binay unfazed if VP wins presidency in 2016

MANILA, Philippines - The police official who confronted Vice President Jejomar Binay during the Makati City hall standoff said on Wednesday that he is unfazed in case the second top government executive becomes president in 2016.

In an interview with reporters, Senior Superintendent Elmer Jamias, newly installed director of the Eastern Police District, said he will continue to serve the police force even if Binay would be elected president

"Ganun pa rin ako, pulis pa rin ako yung panahon na 'yun.Gagampanan ko pa rin ang pagka pulis ko... nakahanda na 'ko sa aking tungkulin at ako'y naging matatag para sa pagpapatupad ng batas," Jamias said.

Jamias was the deputy director for administration of the Southern Police District when then National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Carmelo Valmoria assigned him to head a police task force to maintain peace and order at the Makati City Hall.

The Office of the Ombudsman ordered last June Binay's son, Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr., to be suspended for the alleged overpriced Makati City parking building.

Jamias said the vice president threatened and assaulted him and his men, who held their ground when the elder Binay ordered them to allow his and his son’s supporters to enter the city hall building.

After the confrontation with the elder Binay, Jamias filed a case before the National Capital Region Police Office.

Asked about his critics who claimed he does not deserve the EPD post, Jamias said he is very much qualified to get the promotion.

"Hindi naman totoo 'yung sinasabi nila (detractors). Basta ang alam ko, I'm qualified for the position... I was promoted ahead of my peers.. .I'm very much qualified for a directorial position," he said.
