Mar refutes Binay’s ‘drama’ allegations on his resignation

Rosette Adel - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines – Interior and Local Government Secretary and Liberal Party's standard bearer Mar Roxas on Wednesday denied Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay’s claim that his resignation is obviously a drama and clarified that it was purely voluntary.

Lahat naman ng gawain naming ay tapat at diretso lang, so ‘yung aking pag-reresign ay kusa,”  Roxas said in a televised interview with Unang Hirit.

Binay’s allegations came out following President Benigno Aquino III’s rejection of Roxas’s resignation.

The vice president said the resignation was staged and compared it to previous resignation of Budget Secretary Butch Abad before. He further alleged that the government’s resources will be used for Roxas’s campaign funds.

“Eh, 'di gagamitin ang government resources. Bigay dito, bigay roon.

Roxas however refuted Binay’s allegations explaining that he already spoke with Aquino regarding the matter. He reiterated that the president asked him to stay so that he could properly turn over his work load as the Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary.

Asked about the effectiveness of his resignation, Roxas said there is no exact date yet. However, he said he will only stay for weeks.

Roxas also confirmed that he already gave Aquino names of recommended people who can possibly replace him in his post but he stressed that the decision will still be up to the president just like his appointment after the sudden death of former DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo.

“Well may mga pangalan na binagay natin sa pangulo para sa kanyang konsiderasyon pero at the end of the day sa trust and confidence ng pangulo ‘yun e,” Roxas said.
