MANILA, Philippines - Davao City Mayor Rodrigo "Rody" Duterte on Wednesday said he is opposing with the provisions of the proposed Anti-Dynasty Bill and finds it undemocratic.

In an interview with ANC, Duterte said that he thinks the Anti-Dynasty Bill which prohibits first degree family members from running for public office is undemocratic since it is hindering their rights to become a candidate.

Duterte shared that his father, late Davao Gov. Vicente Duterte, was a governor of Davao for 20 years before he became a mayor, and then he ran for vice-mayor post and allowed his daughter Sara Duterte-Carpio to become a mayor as he wanted to continue his reforms for the city.

"I allowed my daughter because I wanted to continue the reforms. Ayaw kong bitawan kasi hindi pa ako kuntento. Ngayon okay na," Duterte explained.

The mayor said he is not against the political dynasty because he wants to allow people's freedom of expression by letting them run.

"How can you prevent a person from running a public if that is his happiness, freedom of expression, and he wanted to be happy?" Duterte said.
