MANILA, Philippines – Despite constant denial that he is running for a higher position, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Rody”Duterte revealed his plans if he becomes a president.
“’Pag ako ang pinagbigyan ng Diyos na maupo diyan, mismong ang Diyos iiyak, tingnan mo,” Duterte said in a televised interview before the group of transport operators in Parañaque City.
In the same televised interview, Duterte outlined his plans as a president, mentioning bringing the death penalty back and implementing population control program.
Duterte also included the laws he already implemented in Davao City as part of his plans for the entire country if he becomes a president. These laws are smoking and drinking ban after midnight and law against overspeeding.
The mayor is still firm in denying he is running for higher office.
Duterte said he only wants to get married and build a family and claimed that he does not know where the advertisements came from.
The mayor said anonymous donors allegedly sponsored his advertisements.
In a separate televised interview with Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho last Sunday, Duterte revealed that the Chinese community urges him to run for president.
“The strongest clamor came from the Chinese community,” Duterte said.
Asked why he does not want to run despite success of his political career in Davao City, Duterte said he no longer has the energy as he is old and he does not have the money to campaign.
“Ang problema nito, I am old. I became mayor of this (Davao) City when I was only 43, that was in 1988. It’s now 2015, I am still the mayor. Second, I don’t have the energy anymore. I do not have the money and I don’t want to ask,” Duterte said in the interview.
