MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III denied on Thursday that the Liberal Party (LP) was involved in the freezing of Vice President Jejomar Binay's bank accounts.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo aired this morning, Aquino said the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC), which reported that the accounts of Binay and his alleged dummies amounted to P11 billion, is an independent agency.

The AMLC report became the basis of the supposed freeze order issued by the Court of Appeals on the 242 bank accounts of Binay, his family and purported dummies.

"‘'Yung AMLC report, siyempre ‘di ba, ‘yung korte siguro may karapatan diyan, at saka ‘yung council meron sila ‘nung report nila. Pero ‘di ba independent body rin ‘yan," Aquino said.

Aquino also denied that he has seen the AMLC report.

"‘Yung isang kausap kong taga-Liberal Party kanina, sabi niya sa akin naghahanap rin siya kung sino ang may kopya ‘nung AMLC report," he said.

On Tuesday, the Binay camp accused the administration of using the AMLC to harass him and his family.

Joey Salgado, head of the Office of the Vice President’s media affairs, said they received reliable information that as early as last month, key leaders of the LP obtained copies of the AMLC report on the Binay’s bank accounts.

Binay has been accused of amassing kickbacks from allegedly overpriced projects in Makati City and of using dummies to conceal his ill-gotten wealth.

A Senate Blue Ribbon Sub-committee is still conducting an inquiry into these supposedly irregular projects such as the Makati City Hall II parking building.
