Group to storm NEDA, Petron offices today
March 30, 2015 | 8:44pm
MANILA, Philippines - Members of the transport group Piston will rally outside the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) and oil company Petron Thursday to protest the new rounds of petroleum price increase this Holy Week.
Piston national president George San Mateo said their group will also oppose the proposal of NEDA director general Arsenio Balisacan for an additional excise tax on oil products.
The government is planning to impose the excise tax to purportedly recover the dwindling collection on the 12-percent value added tax on petroleum products, San Mateo said.
Piston members will initially converge outside the head office of Petron around 10 a.m. They will then proceed to the NEDA main building around 11 a.m. Both offices are located at Ortigas area in Pasig City.
