Activist group wants more Mamasapano hearings

MANILA, Philippines - The hearings on the Mamasapano incident by the Senate and House of Representatives should resume in light of the leaked video of sacked Special Action Force (SAF) head Getulio Napeñas Jr., according to group Bayan.
In a statement, Bayan secretary general Renato Reyes Jr. said that in the video, Napeñas admitted he was reporting to the suspended Philippine National Police (PNP) Alan Purisima and President Benigno Aquino III regarding the Mamasapano operations.
"Purisima's involvement despite his suspension could only have been made possible by the President. It is a clear violation of the Ombudsman's suspension order," Reyes said.
Days after the Mamasapano hearings and investigations, Purisima stepped down from his post.
Reyes said the statements of the President, Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas, Purisima, Napeñas and Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin should be scrutinized thoroughly and cross-referenced with their statements in the video.
The leaked video was reportedly recorded hours after the Mamasapano operations.
"The Senate and House should have these officials explain the video," Reyes said.
