DepEd pays tribute to 44 slain SAF commandos

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday paid tribute to the 44 members of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) members who were killed during the Mamasapano, Maguindanao operations.
The DepEd personnel observed during the regular flag raising ceremony on Monday a
"44 seconds of silence plus one for all other casualties" in the encounter last January 25 to pay respect to the slain policemen.
The incident also left 11 other Moro Islamic Liberation Front fighters and seven civilians dead. Eleven more SAF commandos were wounded during the encounter.
Meanwhile, Education Secretary Armin Luistro also encouraged all DepEd offices and schools to conduct the tribute during their respective flag raising ceremonies.
