Firecracker injuries now at 113
MANILA, Philippines - Four days ahead of new year, the Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday afternoon placed the number of firecracker-related injuries to 113.
In its latest advisory, the state agency said 44 or 39 percent of the injured came from Metro Manila.
Nineteen cases were eye injuries while 87 cases did not require amputation. Seventy-five cases were caused by 'piccolo,' DOH added.
The DOH said the current figure is still 43 percent lower that what was registered the same time last year.
The state agency is urging the public to refrain from using firecrackers to prevent injuries this holiday season.
