Filipinos in Hong Kong warned against joining protests

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - The Philippine government warned today Filipinos in Hong Kong that they might run into trouble if they join the protests there.

"We continue to remind (our nationals in Hong Kong) to follow the laws there and to stay away from any acts that might get them into trouble with the law or with the authorities there," Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said in an interview with state-run radio station.

She said that the Philippine consulate in Hong Kong is ready to extend assistance to Filipinos who will be affected by the mass actions there.

For Filipino tourists who want to travel to Hong Kong, Valte said the Philippine government has not issued any travel advisory but she reminded them to be aware of their surroundings once they are there.
