PNoy declares October 6 a holiday for Eid al-Adha
MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III declared October 6 a regular holiday in observance of Eid al-Adha, Malacañang announced on Tuesday.
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a televised press briefing that Aquino signed Proclamation 875 on September 12 declaring the national holiday.
October 6 falls on a Monday, meaning Filipinos would have a long weekend early next month.
According to the website of Aquino's office, Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of the Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Abraham to obey God.
Celebrated annually by Muslims around the world, Eid al-Adha starts after the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
The Eid al-Adha is approximately 70 days after the end of the month of Ramadan.
