Over 1,700 families affected by 'Luis'

MANILA, Philippines — More than 1,700 families were affected by torrential rains brought by typhoon Luis in several parts of the country, the state emergency response agency said on Monday.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that a total of 1,723 families or 7,801 individuals were displaced.

The affected persons are staying in 36 evacuation sites in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4-A, Cordillera Administrative Region,and the National Capital Region, the NDRRMC said.
Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said that the death toll during the height of the typhoon stood at three while three others were hurt.

Authorities rescued over 120 persons in Regions 8 and Metro Manila in maritime accidents, the NDRRMC added.

It also recorded more than 700 passengers stranded in various ports in Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Catanduanes and Camarines Sur due to the bad weather.

Classes have been suspended in pre-school to high school in  Ilocos Norte and Pangasinan while classes all level in all levels have cancelled in Ilocos Sur; San, Fernando, La Union; Dagupan City; whole of Regions 3, 4-A, NCR; Mindoro provinces and Calamian group of Islands due to the typhoon.
