VP Binay may run to SC if required to attend Senate probe
MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay may ask the help of the Supreme Court if he is ordered by the Senate to attend the probe on the Makati City Hall II parking building, her daughter said Monday.
In an interview with ANC Headstart, Makati Rep. Abigail Binay said her father will still not attend the third Senate Blue Ribbon sub-committee hearing set on Tuesday.
The lawmaker said there has been no formal invite yet from the Senate panel nor a subpoena that would compel the vice president to attend the inquiry.
"When it comes to that (issuance of subpoena), they may have to go to the Supreme Court," Binay said.
"My advice is not to show up and go to the Supreme Court. Question the subpoena and ask for an injuction," she added.
Binay said the investigation is not in aid of legislation since it only aims to malign their family. She criticized the senators present at the hearing for their demeanor and for being "very biased."
"Hindi fair 'yung forum. Why would you want to appear?" Binay asked. "Why would you want to allow yourself to be part of a hearing na mababastos ka lang?"
The Vice President, Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin "Junjun" Binay and several others are facing a plunder complaint for the alleged overpricing of the controversial parking building.
The Binays have repeatedly denied the allegations, saying the plunder complaint and the Senate investigation are politically motivated. - Louis Bacani
