Bongbong: No plans yet for 2016

Raffy Viray, Marvin Sy - The Philippine Star

BALANGA CITY, Bataan, Philippines – While talks on the next elections make the rounds of government offices, the son of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos has no plans yet to run for president in 2016.

Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. made the statement on Friday after reporters here asked if it was true that his mother, former first lady and Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos, was consolidating political leaders for his candidacy for the presidency.

Marcos, chair of the Senate committee on public works and local government, said he is not aiming for the vice presidency or presidency in two years.

His party, the Nacionalista Party, is busy doing its tasks in improving services and programs to uplift the socioeconomic status of the country. His camp is not yet discussing about its possible presidential candidates.

Marcos explained that like any mother, the former first lady is just praying for the best for him, like following the footsteps of his late father.

The senator is also mum on the presidential candidate he will support.

Marcos visited Bataan for a two-day educational summit attended by 3,000 residents, civic groups, teachers and local officials.

Meanwhile, in response to the numerous problems hounding commuters who have to rely on the public transport system daily, Marcos said there is a need to come out with a transportation and commuter safety code.
