Rainy weekend in Luzon, Visayas
MANILA, Philippines - The state weather bureau warned residents of Luzon and western Visayas against possible flashfloods and landslides as the low-pressure area off Puerto Princesa City, Palawan would continue to dump rains on these areas this weekend.
Heavy rains caused widespread flooding in Cebu City, Bacolod City and Sarangani on Friday.
As of 4 p.m. yesterday, the low-pressure area was spotted at 140 kilometers north of Puerto Princesa City.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the low-pressure area is not expected to intensify into a tropical cyclone.
However, the trough of the low-pressure area will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms over Luzon and western Visayas until today.
The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon or evening.
The weather system is forecast to exit the Philippine area of responsibility tomorrow.
Beginning tomorrow until Sept. 5., the whole country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.
The weather bureau said coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.
