CBCP issues prayer for papal visit next year

MANILA, Philippines - The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) yesterday asked Filipinos to unite in prayer in preparation for the apostolic visit of Pope Francis next January.

CBCP president Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas recently issued a special prayer titled “National Prayer for the Papal Visit” that would be said before the post communion prayer of every mass, starting yesterday until Jan. 14, 2015.

The visit of Pope Francis is one of the most awaited events in the country next year.

Papal Nuncio Archbishop Giuseppe Pinto earlier said he hopes this would bring about a “spiritual typhoon” to the country.

Even the government said it would be making the necessary preparations for the pope’s arrival.

Pope Francis would become the third pontiff to visit the Philippines. Two other pontiffs have come to the country, namely John Paul II, now a saint, who visited the country in 1981 and 1995; and Pope Paul VI in 1970.

The itinerary of his visit would be announced before yearend, although it had been reported that Pope Francis wants to visit the areas affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda.
