Glenda death toll hits 100

MANILA, Philippines - The death toll from Typhoon Glenda has reached 100 while property damage was estimated at P10.8 billion.

Two more fatalities were reported in Marinduque, according to the Office of Civil Defense in Mimaropa region.

The victims were identified as Joseph Lasic, 50, and Abelardo Lope Sr., 64, who both died of heart attack at the height of the typhoon.

Around 70 of the fatalities were from Calabarzon, the region worst hit by Glenda.

There were eight fatalities recorded in Central Luzon, seven in Mimaropa, six each in Bicol and Eastern Visayas, two in Metro Manila, and one in Western Visayas.

The number of injured persons stayed at 630 while five others remain missing.

More than four million individuals or about 887,000 families have been affected in seven regions.

Of the affected residents, about 27,000 persons are still staying in evacuation centers.

Agriculture sector damage accounted for P9.19 billion while infrastructure damage hit P1.61 billion.

A total of 497,276 houses were damaged in Metro Manila, Ilocos, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol and Eastern Visayas.
