MANILA, Philippines — President Aquino has declared July 29 a regular holiday in observance of Eid'l Fitr, the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Aquino has signed Proclamation No. 826 pursuant to Republic Act 9177, which declares Eid’l Fitr as a regular holiday throughout the country.

The proclamation said Filipinos should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr to promote cultural understanding and integration.

It is also important to declare July 29, Tuesday, a regular holiday "to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness," the proclamation also said.

Eid'l Fitr is celebrated by the Muslim world for three days after the end of the month of fasting.
