Stronger 'Glenda' looms; Signal No. 2 up in 5 areas
MANILA, Philippines — Five areas are now under public storm warning signal no. 2 as Tropical Storm "Glenda" continues to gain more strength while approaching Philippine land mass.
In its latest weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Glenda was located at 620 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes.
The agency said "Glenda" has intensified further and is now bearing maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 120 kph.
Glenda continues to move westward at 28 kph, threatening the Bicol Region.
Public storm warning signal no. 2 has been hoisted over five Bicol areas:
- Camarines Norte
- Camarines Sur
- Catanduanes
- Albay
- Sorsogon
The following areas are now also under public storm warning signal no. 1:
- Burias Island
- Marinduque
- Quezon including Polilio Island
- Batangas
- Cavite
- Laguna
- Rizal
- Bulacan
- Pampanga
- Bataan
- Zambales
- Tarlac
- NuevaEcija
- Pangasinan
- Southern Aurora
- Metro Manila
- Northern Samar
Pagasa earlier said moderate to heavy rainfall (7.5 to 15 millimeters per hour) is expected within the 400-kilometer diameter of the tropical storm.
The weather bureau has also advised fishing boats and other small seacraft not to venture out into the eastern seaboards of Luzon and of Visayas.
Glenda is expected to be in the vicinity of Virac, Catanduanes by tomorrow morning and at 240 kilometers northwest of Dagupan City by Wednesday morning.
By Thursday morning, it is expected to be in the vicinity of Southern China.
