Continue treading the right path – Noy

Aurea Calica - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino yesterday called on Filipinos to continue treading the right path and to love and care for others, especially those in need.

In his Easter message, Aquino also promised stronger institutions, holding more corrupt people accountable, an accelerated economy, much improved services and better lives for Filipinos as he serves the last two years of his term.

Aquino said that Jesus Christ went through much difficulties but instead of giving up, He accepted it wholly to give people the opportunity to experience eternity.

Like the path chosen by Christ, the country has risen from corruption and poverty, and the people’s trust had been regained by the government.

He noted that justice in the country would now spare no one, even the rich or powerful. The economy also continued to grow and millions had benefited from social services.

There is quality education now and uniformed personnel and informal settlers are getting housing and other forms of assistance, he added.

The President also noted that even peace in Mindanao is already within reach with the recent signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

Aquino said his term might have a limit but he would always work to make change in the country permanent. He also thanked those who have kept and continue to keep the faith, as well as those who used to doubt but are now part of the agenda for good.

Binay: Be of service to others

Vice President Jejomar Binay, for his part, yesterday urged Filipinos to reflect on the sacrifices made by Jesus Christ and to be of service to others.

“Let us be men and women for others, as Christ teaches us. This, I believe, is a trait that is crucial if we are to succeed in building a nation that is not only progressive but more importantly, bound by love and peace,” Binay said in his Easter message.

For Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., Easter is a time for renewal for every Filipino and for all Filipinos as a nation.

He said that the celebration of Easter “follows a week of soul searching on the various roles we play as members of a family, of a work force or as citizens of this nation.”

“Whatever difficulties we face today are like seeds, which eventually grow into strength and evolve into the success of our pursuits. While we look inward and celebrate this salvation we have received, let us likewise make Easter a time of renewal as one people, as well as a time of rebuilding hope for ourselves and for the bright future we aspire for the Philippines,” he added.
