DepEd sets early registration for SY 2013-2014 on Jan. 26
MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Education (DepEd) has set the early registration of students who will enroll in public schools for school year 2013-2014 on Jan. 26.
DepEd conducts early registration yearly to make an assessment of the number of students that will attend public schools for the next school opening in June.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro said the event “manifests DepEd’s thrust to bring all school-aged children and out-of-school youth back to school.â€
“We are enlisting the assistance of local and barangay officials for the early registration of out-of-school children, out-of-school youth as well as street children,†Luistro said.
The early registration targets six-year-old and five-year-old children to ensure their enrollment in Grade 1 and kindergarten, respectively.
According to Luistro, the early registration will also enable DepEd to work closely with local government units, the parent-teachers associations, barangay officials, civil society groups, civic organizations and the business sector.
“We want to make sure the school opening will be smooth, that is why we are doing the preparation as early as January,†he said.
