Pacquiao raring for 5th showdown

HOLLYWOOD – Manny Pacquiao, fully recovered from the trauma of his most humiliating setback in his eight-year rivalry with Juan Manuel Marquez on Sunday (Monday in Manila), insisted a fifth showdown with the Mexican champion may happen next year.

Discounting talks of retirement and his involvement with a religious group, the Filipino icon said he is more than ready to climb into the ring again and seek redemption for his Sunday defeat that shocked the world.

“Oo, puwede pa ako (Yes, I still can),” said Pacquiao, doing a little bit of shadow-boxing in the narrow aisle of the Team Pacquiao bus that brought him back to Los Angeles from Las Vegas.

Pacquiao said he can return to the ring on April 20, a date that’s already been red-marked by Top Rank, whether it’s for a fifth fight with Marquez or against someone else like Brandon Rios.

“Pwede (Could be),” said Pacquiao, despite calls for him to retire.

It was less than 24 hours after Pacquiao suffered a scary knockout at the hands of Marquez at the MGM Grand, and yet he was already in high spirits.

In a short span, Pacquiao has accepted the loss.

“That’s sports. You win some, you lose some. Kung ayaw mo matalo, huwag ka na lumaban. Tanggapin natin (If you don’t want to lose, don’t fight. Let’s accept it),” said the boxer in his favorite Louis Vuitton jacket.

Pacquiao told Manila scribes gathered around him that Saturday’s knockout reminded him of a similar loss he suffered against Rustico Torrecampo on Feb. 9, 1996.

It was the first loss of Pacquiao’s career, and he said it was a similar punch that left him sprawled on the canvas.

“Marquez caught me flush on the chin. Parang (Like) Torrecampo. Diretso sa baba (right on the chin). If only he hit me in the jaw I knew I could get up like the first knockdown,” Pacquiao said.

“Pero iba kapag sa baba (But it’s different when it’s on the chin). I remembered hitting the canvas hard,” he said.

“But let’s accept the loss. Marquez deserved the victory. Nasingitan niya ako (He sneaked in a punch),” said Pacquiao, who flies to Manila tonight and will be there Wednesday.

Pacquiao reflected on the final moments of his fourth fight with Marquez.

“I was wrong doing that double-fake. Napasubsob ako (I lunged). It’s like going head on with that right straight. Salubong talaga eh (I ran smack into it),” he said.

Pacquiao said what makes him feel bad is that he had the upper hand when the end came, despite the fact that he was knocked down in the third round.

He floored Marquez in the fifth, and hit the Mexican with good shots. He felt he broke Marquez’s nose, which was already oozing blood when the end came.

Pacquiao said if only he escaped the sixth round, the knockout coming in the 2:59 mark, he would have gone for the kill in the succeeding rounds.

“Basag na ilong ni Marquez (His nose was broken). He was breathing heavily because of his broken nose. Nadidinig ko hinga niya (I could hear him breath). I was told his corner was already giving him one more round,” said Pacquiao.

“I would have finished him off in rounds seven or eight. I was feeling good. I felt fine. There was no sign of the cramps that have bugged me in the previous fights starting in the fourth round or so,” he said.

“Sayang talaga (What a waste). I was warming up,” he said smiling.

Pacquiao said he always went for the knockout because that’s what he promised the people.

“Did you notice each time the bell rings, I wanted to rush to him? Panay nga hawak sa akin ng referee eh (the referee kept holding on to me). I wanted action. I wanted to trade the big shots. Then he got lucky,” he said.

Pacquiao said he wanted no less than a knockout and wouldn’t have accepted winning another decision. He said a day before the fight that “it’s either him or me.”

“Puwede naman manalo pero pangit na laban. Ayoko nun (It could have been a win but not a good fight. I don’t want that.). I hope the people were happy with this fight.”

There are already calls for a fifth fight, although during the past week both camps have said this should be the last.

But Pacquiao vs Marquez is the type of fight the public wants to see.

“Tingnan natin (Let’s see),” said Pacquiao, who will celebrate his son’s birthday on Wednesday, and then his own on Dec. 17.

Pacquiao was smiling when he boarded the bus with wife Jinkee, and walked down the aisle, checking on the passengers.

"Gusto ko lang kayo i-check (I'm just checking on you)," said Pacquiao, who greeted fellow boxers Dodie Boy Penalosa Jr, Michael Farenas and Ernie Sanchez.

“O, kurdapyo (Hey Jerk)," he kidded Sanchez.

Farenas, who floored the heavily-favored Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa in the undercard but lost by decision, said Pacquiao promised all of them a Christmas bonus.

The Pacquiao couple occupied the front seats during the five-hour trip that included a stopover at Barstow. On the road, they had a steak dinner at Denny's.

Over a dozen cars followed the bus throughout the journey. During the stop at a Chevron gas station, the entourage trooped to a convenience store for snacks. The tab: $389.

The last time he rode the Team Pacquiao bus from Vegas was for the Miguel Cotto fight. He was a winner then.

If there's going to be a 5th match, that must be the last or else it won't end.

We were stunned by the loss, although we expect losses, not that way, but it happened on a very significant day for catholics, Dec. 8, Mother Mary's day, no more signs of the cross, no more scapular that previously protected him from harm, - a religion left by Manny to be a "born again Christian?" Since switching to this new belief, he never won. Am just wondering, maybe time to return to where he used to be, Catholic. Mommy D knows best, all these self proclaimed pastors, enlighten your minds and stay away from our people's champ. You do more harm than good.

So what about Mama Mary? Mommy D knows best? God knows best. Human wisdom is limited. Catholic Priests are false prophets too...wolves in sheep's clothing.

Dec 8, was also the anniversary of the japanese bombing of the country that started the brutal 3 year occupation. What's the point?

Parehong mahal ng Diyos si Pacquioa at Marquez because God is merciful. At ano naman kinalaman ng diyos dun sa boksing ng tao.

Ever humble boxer of all. Manny, we still adore you as a boxer. You have given us more proud moments than your lost last weekend. Good luck to you and your family.

The Pacman lost the fight fair and square. I too lost, a bet, 5 boxes of pizza and 10 sixpacs. Manny's jaw was on the way with Marquez haymaker..fast tsamba reflex by Juan. Manny still got it but the double side by side loss might stick in his mind in the next fight whoever it will be. I bet that he will fight 2 more fight before facing Marquez again and at that time Juan will dictate the conditions...it will probably happen in Mexico at the end of next year or May of 2014

I noticed that Pacquiao does not wear his rosary like he used to in the ring. He use to wear it then takes it off (by Buboy) just before the fight begins. He then kisses the rosary on Buboy's hand before the bell. Manny, if you are reading this, please do not change your religious ways as it was, changing your training/concentration for a fight like you use to be when you were 25 years old is good but to forget your religious ways when you enter the ring and after you leave the ring is for GOD alone. Please remember.

Good that I'm not the only one who noticed the absence of the Rosary in Manny's corner. First with Bradley then with Marquez, two for two lost...Being "Born Against" to me is ok, but don't forget what you believed before. As what they say "too many minds spoil the concentration. I sincerely hope the these back to back loss by the Pacman will NOT alienate the Pinoy's with their hero. Manny still got 3 or 4 more good years of fighting and should continue unless he decided no to do so (hindi pa siya laos mga kababayan). The Pacquiao class only comes every two or 3 generations. The last one was the great Flash Elorde, that's almost 2 generations ago. I will wait for the 5th. fight win Marquez which will probably in Mexico City because Juan will dictate the terms from now on, if and only if he want's to fight the Pacman again..

There is a story behind that wooden rosary Pacman used to wear and worship. Only him knew too well that story. Will somebody help me to remind Pacquiao how he got that rosary in the first place? It was his PANATA to keep using and praying on that rosary because it was given by God Himself to Pacquiao using a human being as the medium. Please remind Pacman about this rosary and for sure he would remember the story of it. God said to him the time the rosayr was given to him: "Sige sumuntok ka ng sumuntok at ako ang sumusuntok para sayo."

Manny has to consider retirement seriously. His last two fights clearly showed that he could no longer compete in the higher level of competition. He longer has the fire in his eyes and focus on his fight because of so many distractions. since earning billions, leeches like the pastors and politicians, cling to his coattails sucking his pockets dry. I dread the day that I could see him selling PAN DE SAL again on the streets of Manila for his kids' breakfast. Politics is truly NOT for him because of his limited experience and education while pastors like Jeric Soriano only think of their groups' expansion like the Villanuevas of JIL who live like Kings and are in politics too. The Pacquiaos could live a simple but comfortable life if Manny chooses it.

Solid ang suntok na inabok ni Pacquiao, swerte pa rin siya at hindi na-disgrasya at natuluyan. At this point in time where he has already earned more than enough, dapat na siyang mag-isip-isip. The problem is, deep inside him has already develop an attitude of greed - for victory, popularity and money. May God enlighten him.

Pacman will surely be loss in the limelight. It would be juicier for another Floyd-Marquez fight tiyak papatok ito sa PPV. It will be out for now Arum, Golden Boy gonna take over sa juicy fight. Maybe kung matalo si Marquez kay Floyd pwedi pa si Manny and Marquez.

The last 2 fights where pacman lost were the 2 fights where he earned most. So it's rhetorically break even for him... and his family... and friends
