Admitting that the next government might pursue bilateral talks with China despite a possible favorable decision by the tribunal in the Hague over the South China Sea row, outgoing Foreign Affairs Secretary Rene Almendras says the ruling may even help the fresh negotiations to be pushed by the administration of presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte.

In an ongoing interview with Karen Davila on ANC, Almendras (pictured in AP file photo) also says the current government will turn over a foreign policy playbook to the next officials.

He said, however, that Duterte's team can opt not to use it.
