How technology can foster better parent-child relationship
MANILA, Philippines — Psychologists all over the world have been warning parents about the dangers of using technology as their kids’ pacifier.
Letting kids spend more than two hours in front of screens every day, according to experts, can lead to:
- Sedentary lifestyle
- Sleep disorders
- Aggression
- Depression
- Obesity
- Poor social skills
- Academic under-achievement
- Weaker immune system
- Overall physical and mental deterioration
While many pundits are worried about technology’s bad effects on kids, though working for a tech company, Benny Yu, Consumer Group Director of Canon Marketing Philippines, is among those concerned about gadgets’ negative effects also on parents.
“Now, parents are into mobile devices and no longer interacting with kids,” he laments.
Thus, in an effort to introduce technology as a force for good, Canon recently introduced new products that, according to Yu, enable adults to reconnect with kids, instead of separating them as technology is often alleged of doing.
“Technology plays a vital role in the development of children. As a company that aims to bring delight to everyone, we make sure that our products are part of every delightful moment,” shares Yu.
“Through the newly launched series of Pixma E printers, we wish to make these moments count – from using our printers to produce work that will help enhance the creativity and learning of kids, to documenting these moments via photos.”
Through the new printers, print quality is not compromised by cost efficiency, says Yu. The Pixma E410 is perfect for moms who help put together her children’s numerous drafts of artworks, sketches and projects with its ability to print up to 400 black and white documents, and 180 colored pages.
Meanwhile, the design-savvy student might enjoy the Pixma E470’s built-in Wi-Fi features that can help print from anywhere to meet that deadline when paired with the Google Cloud Print1 service.
Teens in the family can immortalize their best photos on Facebook through the Pixma MG3070s with its Cloud Link application for remote printing of Facebook albums and online contents with mobile devices. The compact Pixma E480 model is best suited for aspiring entrepreneurs in the family with its on-the-go faxing and scanning features.
By enabling kids and parents to print templates and photos for crafting, the new printers, says Yu, would encourage healthy family bonding. As he puts it: “Family moments are delightful moments worth having memories of.”
